From suggester: "The Tooth Fairy Calculator by ~rubesart is just one fantastic example of steam-punk from a whole gallery of varied steam punk sculptures, including a time machine! The sheer detail put into the piece makes it worth giving it a look (and a fav) not to mention the very idea of inventing a contraption of the sort. It's a wonder the tooth fairy hasn't stolen this already."

Description
This commission is part of the fabulous Leicestershire Artworks collection project, a unique resource of over 900 original works of art that are loaned to schools throughout the county. In order to expand what the collection has on offer this commission has selected 13 artists to create objects that can be held in the hand, forming a collection box of surprising, beautiful, tactile mystery art objects and imagined things.
My hand held object is the “ Tooth Fairy Calculator ”a bronze and brass, clockwork mechanism that would be used by the Tooth Fairy to calculate the cost of any given baby tooth.
The calculator works by rotating a brass cog which protrudes from the oval shell. This in turn rotates a dial inside the object showing a selection of different milk teeth and their costs in runic symbols. Celtic spiral decorations and Anglo-Saxon knot work patterning cover the exterior surface. A red garnet Cabochon stone is also set into the shell. The two viewing windows are recycled watch faces.
