Bronze wall panel

This is a 7.2 meter long bronze, stainless steel and oil paint, wall mounted artwork installed in the village of Crosskeys in South Wales. It's fixed into a recess in a pennant stone wall which was recently constructed as part of the village square regeneration scheme.

The shape of the artwork initially came from a Google earth image of the valleys that converge at Crosskeys, so at it's heart it's a map of the area. The design was inspired by the various stages of local history combining La-Tene design from the Silurian Hill fort above the village with painted Romanesque mosaic elements and imagery relating to the industrial heritage of the area. Primary school children from Crosskeys produced drawings, during a day long workshop, of their and surrounding villages. Their drawings were then digitally combined to produce images that represent the various villages and etched into stainless steel discs. The location of the discs in the panel relate to the location of the villages on a map.
